Coverage of Sport Medicine Expenses

Athletes are reminded to make use of their provincial health care and personal insurance prior to CAIP & CSCM support.

Initial appointments with external providers are to be arranged through CSCM. This ensures the provider is aware the athlete is a CSCM athlete and therefore eligible for the preferred rate.

  • Individual Athletes: Financial support for sport medicine will be put towards the purchase of Canadian Athlete Insurance Program (CAIP) coverage at the level chosen by the athlete. Should the athlete require, or desire, a level which costs more than the support from CSCM, they will be responsible for paying the difference.
    • Should CAIP not be conducive to your situation, direct financial support from CSCM is available on a case-by-case basis.
  • Training Group Athletes: Please contact your coach or CSCM for information.

Invoices received at the CSCM office for services that have not been pre-approved will be returned to the service provider and are the responsibility of the athlete.

Parameters of Service Access

The limits on service access may change without notice. Changes may be necessary based on the remaining budget as the year progresses. Services may have to be limited, and in rare cases services may be extended beyond the limits that are set. Athletes are expected to exhaust any individual insurance coverage they may have before using the CAIP insurance offered by the CSCM.

Evaluation of Services

Please note that servicing and support are fluid and as such CSCM welcomes feedback regarding support and providers.

Are you considering retirement from high performance sport? Or have you recently retired?

If you answered yes to either of these questions, contact asm@cscm.ca to learn how CSCM can help you in this time of transition.
