At CSCM, we believe that all individuals should have the opportunity to have a sport experience that is free from harassment, discrimination and abuse.

CSCM is a Program Signatory for Abuse-Free Sport

Abuse-Free Sport is an independent program that is part of a growing national movement to rid Canadian sport of all forms of harassment, discrimination and abuse. As a Program Signatory, CSCM is an active player in this movement.

Unlike the previous approach, where each national sport organization created its own system for dealing with complaints of maltreatment, this is a centralized “one-stop shop.” It is independent and led by experts in their fields, using education and research to prevent maltreatment at all levels of sport.

The Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner (the Office) serves as the central hub. It operates independently to administer complaints about alleged violations of the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS).

Where there are admissible allegations of abuse, harassment or discrimination, the Office conducts independent investigations and recommends sanctions against individuals who violate the UCCMS.

The Office will also maintain a national sanctions registry, which prevents individuals from evading sanctions be moving in different sports or in different jurisdictions.

For designated participants within our organization, there is access to a wide range of resources, including victim services and referrals to specialized mental health professionals and experienced lawyers – all of it available in English and French.

Include Everyone. Share sport with others, regardless of creed, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or ability. Invite everyone into sport to make it more meaningful for the whole community.
Give Back. Always remember the community that supports your sport and helps make it possible. Find ways to show your appreciation and help others get the most out of sport.

One of the cornerstones of True Sport is the importance of doping-free sport. Doping is not healthy or fair – doping undermines True Sport. For more information on Canada’s Anti-Doping Program (CADP) visit the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES).

Anti-Racism in Sport

CSCM recognizes the work of the Anti-Racism in Sport Campaign.

The Anti-Racism in Sport Campaign seeks to increase, promote, and engage in discussions on anti-racism in sport about the presence of all levels of racism in sport in Winnipeg and its impact on people’s lives, and raise awareness, address, and eliminate racism and discrimination experienced by First Nations, Metis, Inuit, Black, Racialized, and Religious Minority communities in sport in Winnipeg.

This campaign seeks to help people identify and disrupt all forms of racism through multiple activities that includes research, school presentations, stakeholder training, a public awareness campaign, and an Anti-Racism in Sport Accord.

Commit to Kids

The Canadian Centre for Child Protection provides expertise to the Coaching Association of Canada’s (CAC) Responsible Coaching Movement through the Commit to Kids program, and has created tailored resources available to sports organizations, coaches, officials, sport leaders, volunteers, and parents to help keep kids safe in sport. CSCM staff have completed Commit to Kids certification, as part of our pledge to create a safe environment for all athletes.

CSCM RESPECTFUL ENVIRONMENT POLICY

Fairness and respect are also players in our approach at CSCM. We believe in fair and ethical practices as characterized by equity, integrity and trust. CSCM recognizes that each individual has the right to participate, work and train in an environment which promotes equal opportunities and prohibits discriminatory practices and is committed to providing such an environment.

The CSCM Respectful Environment Policy states that any athlete, coach or individual who feels they are being discriminated against or being harassed has a place to register a complaint without fear of retaliation or reprisal. CSCM will exercise care to protect and respect the rights of all parties involved. We believe in free and open communication and an environment that fosters the dignity and self-esteem of everyone associated with the CSCM.
