Doreen Bechtle
Athlete Services Manager (interim) & Bookkeeper (semi-retired)
From 2005-2015, Doreen Bechtle made a tremendous contribution as the Athlete Services Manager at the Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba. In that time she initiated a variety of projects to better service our athletes and to expand our relationship with the larger sport community. In October of 2015, Doreen retired from her full-time position at CSCM, but has remained a part of the team in her new role as Bookkeeper. In 2022, Doreen stepped back into the role of Athlete Services Manager to cover a maternity leave.
Doreen’s contributions to sport in Manitoba go far beyond her career at CSCM. She has been mostly involved in athletics, both as the Technical Director and Executive Director for Athletics Manitoba, as well as a volunteer. As Sport Coordinator, she worked to make the 1999 Pan Am Games a success for the aquatics, equestrian, modern pentathlon and cycling participants. She was also the Sport Manager for the 2002 Indigenous Games, overseeing 16 sports for such an important multi-sport and cultural celebration. Her ability to get things done with passion and determination made her an invaluable addition to the medical division at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Even as she (partially) retired, she continued to be involved in sport as the Venue Chair for Athletics for the 2017 Canada Games and currently is helping organize Athletics & Cross Country events for the 2023 World Police & Fire Games.
Doreen’s own athletic accomplishments were recognized in 2013 when she was inducted to the Bemidji State University Hall of Fame in Minnesota. Having excelled as a track and field athlete herself, she understood the effort it takes to be a high performance athlete and worked to provide athletes with the support they needed to succeed in their specific sport.
