Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network Welcomes New Cabinet Appointments
The Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network (COSPIN) warmly welcomes the appointment of the Honourable Steven Guilbeault as Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, and the Honourable Adam van Koeverden as Secretary of State (Sport).
These appointments come at a strategic time for Canada’s high-performance sport ecosystem. The COPSIN and its members offer their full cooperation in the fulfillment of their respective mandates, convinced that sport can play a fundamental role in the cultural, social, and national identity of the country.
As a multi-medal Olympic athlete, the Honourable Adam van Koeverden has extensive knowledge of the realities of high-performance sport. His understanding of the needs of athletes and sport organizations is an undeniable asset in fostering an environment that supports excellence, sustainability, and inclusion.
The COPSIN reiterates the importance of adequate, stable, and predictable funding for sport in Canada – a fundamental issue that will enable Canadian athletes to perform at the highest level while benefiting from optimal support.
The COPSIN invites the Honourable Steven Guilbeault and the Honourable Adam van Koeverden to visit its members’ venues across the country and meet the athletes and support teams who work every day to achieve world-class performance standards.
