The Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba (CSCM) welcomes Dr. Gail Sawa as Chief Medical Officer
CSCM is pleased to announce that Dr. Gail Sawa is joining our organization in the role of Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Sawa’s specialized knowledge and medical services will be an asset to the high performance athletes that CSCM serves.
Dr. Sawa moved to Manitoba as a teenager, competing in various sports from a young age, including elite artistic gymnastics, track and field, as well as rhythmic gymnastics, where she is currently a coach and master’s competitor.
While studying at the University of Manitoba, Dr. Sawa earned multiple degrees, including Bachelor of Physical Education, Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation (physical therapy), Master of Science, Bachelor of Science in Medicine, and Doctor of Medicine. In addition to her studies at the U of M, Dr. Sawa has also taught within their Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science. She has earned the IOC Diploma in Sports Medicine and the Certificate of Added Competency in Sport and Exercise Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
“We are very pleased for Dr. Sawa to be joining our staff with the Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba, as she will work well with our multidisciplinary team to help support elite athletes in Manitoba. She has an excellent skill set and will be a great asset to any athletes receiving care from her at the Sport Manitoba clinic,” said CSCM Executive Director Matt Barr.

In addition to serving as CSCM’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sawa continues to see patients at the Sport Manitoba Clinic, as well as working as the on-site doctor for the Winnipeg Sea Bears.
